he didn’t retire yet but his contract was voided by the Jets and he passed through waivers. For our league, I am not sure Carolina can drop him without consequences though as the only contracts we can cut without penalty are ELCs and 2-way contracts.

I’ll bring it up with the RC

Ruling on Byfuglien:

After review, the RC cannot find a source beyond CapFriendly confirming that Byfuglien has officially retired from the NHL, and he remains subject to FA rumours and speculation. As a result, he cannot be terminated under the retirement clause of the CBA at this time. However, since he was on LTIR at the time of his contract termination, the RC suggests Carolina place Byfuglien on LTIR until this situation is clarified (official retirement, new contract et al.)

If anyone sees a reputable source confirming CapFriendly, please feel free to post it
